The Red Mill Festival of Trees

My neighbor is a volunteer at The Red Mill in Clinton, NJ and she suggested that I might be interested in decorating a tree or wreath to donate to their silent auction. The Red Mill is actually a museum with an interesting collection of agricultural, industrial and domestic artifacts. Many of these objects are displayed in permanent exhibits, interpreting the story of how this community developed from Colonial times through 1928 when the Mill was closed.

My favorite part of their tour is seeing the one room school house with the pull-down map at the front of the classroom and the dunce's cap in the corner. Sprinkled throughout the tour are some great old photos from the early days of photography that give you an entirely new perspective on the town. Can you imagine that the Delaware river froze so that you could skate on it?

I mainly used my own artwork and candy to decorate the tree. It was a lot of fun and I told my neighbor to count me in for next year!
